LACBA congratulates attorney Edith R. Matthai, the recipient of the Litigation Section’s 2024 Jim Robie Professionalism and Civility Award. Matthai was presented with the award at the May 9 Bench Meets the Bar Luncheon hosted by the Litigation Section.

Matthai has been a notable leader and consummate professional among the Los Angeles legal community for decades. In addition to her outstanding career as a trial lawyer, Matthai has served as President of LACBA (2005), President of the Los Angeles Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (2008), President of the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel (2001), President of California Defense Counsel (2004), President of the Chancery Club (2015), and a multitude of other significant committees and boards focused on the greater good of the law.

At the event, section leaders recognized Matthai’s professionalism and civility with the award that was created in the memory of her husband and Past Litigation Section Chair, Jim Robie.

The award is presented annually by the Litigation Section to commemorate Robie, a longtime LACBA member and former Litigation Section Chair. The award recognizes a Los Angeles lawyer whose career as a trial lawyer exemplifies professionalism, civility, service, enthusiasm, and collegiality.
