From May 16 to May 26, twenty-one members of LACBA enjoyed an exclusive and enriching trip across South Africa. This extraordinary journey was meticulously planned to offer insights into the country's legal landscape while immersing participants in its rich cultural heritage and natural beauty.
The adventure commenced in the vibrant city of Cape Town, continued through Johannesburg, and concluded in the capital, Pretoria. During their stay, the LACBA members engaged with legal peers from the Constitutional Court and the High Court, interfaced with various government agencies, and interacted with members of Bar Associations, private practice firms, civil society organizations, and the U.S. Embassy.
Among the highlights of the trip was exploring the UNESCO-listed Cradle of Humankind, an awe-inspiring site showcasing the origins of human life. Members gained a deeper understanding of South Africa's complex history at the Apartheid Museum, where the struggle and triumph over apartheid were poignantly displayed. The vibrant township of Soweto and the breathtaking natural wonders of Table Mountain and the Cape of Good Hope captivated the hearts of all participants. They also had the unique opportunity to observe the endangered African Penguin in its natural habitat.
