If you are looking for a “hands on” learning experience in immigration law or desire to help those in vulnerable immigrant communities, there are two volunteer opportunities available through the Immigration Legal Assistance Project. Volunteers will learn the workings of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and the Immigration Court as they assist a project that helps thousands of individuals a year.
IMMIGRATION LEGAL ASSISTANCE PROJECT
ILAP is a walk-in clinic in the Federal Building that serves individuals from all over the world with their immigration needs. Under the supervision of ILAP staff attorneys, volunteers will be trained to fill out and organize USCIS packages for green card applications, work permits, citizenship, travel permits, TPS, DACA, etc. Volunteers will be trained in doing proper client interviews and assist with research.

Speaking another language aside from English is preferred but not required. ILAP is flexible and will try to accommodate volunteer schedule but prefers a time commitment of 2 hours per week.
