Dear Members and Friends of LACBA:

As you may know, LACBA has formed a Task Force on Reproductive Rights, chaired by former LACBA President Edith Matthai. LACBA is part of the Steering Committee of the Southern California Legal Alliance for Reproductive Justice (SoCal LARJ) organized by the UCLA School of Law’s Center for Reproductive Health, Law, and Policy.

Together with the California Attorney General’s Office, the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office, and WLALA, LACBA and SoCal LARJ are assembling a coalition of law firms and lawyers who are willing to provide pro bono legal support to patients, providers, and others in Southern California—and beyond—who are affected by the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization decision. Modeled on similar coalitions formed in New York and San Francisco, our alliance brings together SoCal's legal profession to provide pro bono representation concerning abortion and other reproductive rights and justice issues.

Please read the letter from SoCal LARJ regarding its formation and reach out to your law firm and colleagues to determine their interest in joining this important coalition. A list of the firms who have joined the Bar Association of San Francisco’s coalition is below.*

If your firm is willing to join SoCal LARJ, send an email to Lara Stemple of the UCLA School of Law at stemple@law.ucla.edu indicating your interest and if SoCal LARJ may list the name of your firm in public materials such as press releases, websites, and the like. Next, fill out the SoCal LARJ Law Firm Interest and Capacity Survey, which reflects a wide range of practice areas that can help. Everyone who connects with SoCal LARJ will be invited to a meeting of coalition members on Sept. 29, noon-1pm. Please save the date.
