VSO Attorney Application

In response to the Los Angeles County wildfire emergency, the LACBA Family Law Section is re-launching the Virtual Settlement Officer program to assist those impacted by this crisis.  VSOs will provide three hours of virtual mediation at no cost to the parties.  After a matter is referred, the VSO will coordinate scheduling directly with the parties/attorneys at the VSO’s convenience with the goal of conducting the mediation within two weeks of assignment.  We hope to also compile a list of mental health professionals to serve as co-mediators on child custody matters.

Although perhaps the last thing on the minds of those in this time of crisis, it is critical that support obligors immediately file for modification and support recipients may have vital financial needs to address as well. Our family law departments may soon be inundated with matters addressing loss of income, housing instability, changes in school or work availability, etc.

Attorneys must be CFLS, retired judicial officers or have at least five years practicing primarily in the area of family law and be an active member of the LACBA Family Law Section.  Anyone previously qualified to serve as DSO or VSO will automatically qualified to serve as a VSO for this program.
