Barristers/Young Attorneys Section

The Barristers/Young Attorneys Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association (Barristers/Young Attorneys) has been a cornerstone of LACBA for more than 70 years. Dedicated to lawyers in their first decade of practice, the Section provides professional development, networking, and community service opportunities that support the growth of the next generation of legal leaders.

If you are a member of LACBA and have been admitted to practice for 10 years or less, including law students, you qualify as a Barrister. Our Section offers a welcoming space to develop legal skills, gain professional visibility, and engage with the broader Los Angeles legal community. Our Mission

Provide opportunities for new lawyers to develop practical skills and their professional reputation.
Build connections through networking beyond the workplace.
Promote meaningful public service and community engagement projects.
Foster leadership by creating a forum for members to collaborate with judges, experienced attorneys, and peers.

What We Offer

Professional Development – CLEs and workshops tailored to the needs of early-career attorneys. We also offer the opportunity for members to market themselves by authoring “Barristers Tips” articles for the Los Angeles Lawyer Magazine and being spotlighted in our monthly newsletter (email us to learn more!).
Networking & Mentorship – Our Section is known for its many networking opportunities, including mixers, panel discussions, courthouse programs, and cross-section collaborations that connect members with peers, judges, and seasoned attorneys.
Community Engagement – Volunteer initiatives and pro bono projects that directly impact Los Angeles County residents.
Leadership Training – Hands-on experience planning events and Section activities, preparing members for leadership roles in LACBA and beyond.
Signature Events – Annual highlights include:
- Bench Meets Bar – Our marquee event that connects our members with local state and federal judges in an informal and collegial setting. This event is usually sold out weeks in advance.
- Joint Mixer at Sony Pictures – A joint event by Barristers/Young Attorneys and the Association of Media and Entertainment Counsel Emerging Leaders Board where our members are invited to network at Sony Pictures Entertainment Studio Lot. This event is usually sold out weeks in advance.
- Networking Mixers – Social gathering events throughout the year designed to build friendships and professional networks among new attorneys.
