Message from 2025-26 Section Chair Brian Lepak

On behalf of my fellow Family Law Section officers, and the Family Law Executive Committee Members, we welcome you to this LACBA Family Law Section webpage and to our LACBA community.

While this webpage provides family law content to the general public, there is a portion that can be accessed only by our Section members.  We encourage you to join our Family Law Section so that you too can have access to all of the family law information and benefits available to our members.

Being a member of LACBA and this Family Law Section adds value to your practice.  Our members can network and communicate with each other.  They can have family law questions answered or concerns shared through the listserv.  They can see interviews with sitting family law judges.  They can learn details from the presiding judge of the family law department as to upcoming changes in the Superior Court.  They receive financial discounts from vendors that support our Section.

More importantly, members have an opportunity to give back to their community in many ways including being a participant in the Daily Settlement Officer Program, the Judgment  Assistance Program, and through helping to foster ideas and make presentations for continuing legal education.

If you would like to learn more about the benefits of LACBA membership, I encourage you to reach out to me or my fellow executive committee officers listed below.  We look forward to doing our best to assist you in improving your practice and ensuring our family law services prove beneficial to everyone within our community.

The Family Law Section is committed to:

• Educating our section members.
• Drafting amicus briefs and proposing legislation.
• Encouraging ethical conduct.
• Developing and improving standards of practice.
• Encouraging and promoting pro bono opportunities.
• Providing a forum through which family law practitioners may cooperate with, encourage and assist each other in the resolution of problems and practice issues.
• Fostering communication between Los Angeles County Bar Association members and other groups.

What We Do

• Educate attorneys and the public
• Comment on proposed legislation and promulgate new legislation
• Work with judicial officers and court staff to improve the administration of justice
• Support organizations that provide free and low cost legal services
