Submits Letter In Support of Rodeo Ban
The newly formed Animal Law Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association has submitted a letter to the Los Angeles City Council supporting the City of Los Angeles' proposed ordinance prohibiting cruel devices and events at rodeos taking place within Los Angeles City limits. The Animal Law Section has asked the City Council to enact the proposed Ordinance as drafted, and has also asked the Council to go a step further and ban rodeos entirely. "Rodeos often employ a number of inhumane methods and devices to provoke aggressive or erratic behavior in animals for the sake of entertainment," the letter states. It continues: "Scaring, provoking, and injuring animals just for entertainment purposes is not something we, as a society, should condone." The Los Angeles City Council is expected to vote on the proposed ban in the upcoming weeks.
